For more than 20 years I have been the person asked to sort that out.
I have run and restructured businesses from small owner-managed companies through to divisions of FTSE 100 enterprises. That has meant rebuilding sales pipelines from scratch, implementing lean systems that cut waste and improved on-time delivery, fixing profit and cash flow problems, and leading teams across operations, finance, HSE, HR, and international expansion.
Along the way I completed an MBA in strategy and led award-winning engineering and manufacturing businesses.
What all of this taught me is that good strategy is not a glossy document or a clever model. It is practical, rooted in real numbers, and focused on why things work – not just what the latest management book says.
